Songwriting as Advocacy

In VOCALISM workshops, participants are encouraged to use their voice in a safe, creative space. We give you tools to advocate most effectively for yourself and others with a technical and creative approach to group participation. In particular, we use music as a way to include everyone.

Our Songwriting as Advocacy workshop allows you the space to say something important in a new way. Here's a recent example: "Empty Chair" by Front Line Defenders.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines an  advocate as:
1. one that pleads the cause of another; specifically :  one that pleads the cause of another before a tribunal or judicial court
2. one that defends or maintains a cause or proposal
3. one that supports or promotes the interests of another

"I liked the fun and the interaction of working together to create a song about the work that we are all so committed to."

"Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic."
"[The choir] keep asking can they do it again with you!"

- Members of the High Hopes Choir, Dublin

"It was fun, interesting and thought provoking."

- Jim, Front Line Defenders, international human rights organisation

"I liked the fact that there was a tangible outcome [to the workshop], to which everyone contributed... Song-writing has always been something obscure to me and the workshop somehow demystified it. I feel I understand the process more now."
